The Twilight Runway Challenge is an annual fundraising event organised by CMPP (Community Matters Partnership Project) to raise money for local charities and schools. This fun event is suitable for the whole family and is a rare opportunity for the whole community to get together and take part in a unique experience on the airstrip at Blackbushe Airport. Last year, our CEO Sheldon took part in this event and ran the 10k coming third overall, raising £600. This year we were determined to get a team signed up for Yateley Industries! Having only started in post a few weeks ago, Sheldon set me the challenge of signing up as many participants as I could and we were pleased to have a team of 11 participants made up of staff, residents and volunteers entered for the day.
By 5.30pm it was still warm but with a breeze coming across the airport – ideal weather conditions! With no planes on the runway, participants started to walk, run, wheel, scoot or cycle their way through the start and around the 3k, 5k or 10k routes. Everyone tackled the course in their own way at their own pace, cheered on by supporters.
It was safe to say that we all had a great afternoon, with some of the participants never having completed an event like this before, they felt a great sense of achievement. As we approached the finish the sun was starting to set, a perfect end to our first team fundraiser.
Our team set up individual JustGiving pages and the combined sponsorship has raised over £2390 for Yateley Industries so far. Well done to everyone and thank you to all our supporters! Who will be joining us next year????
